The benefits

Why light.

Red and near-infrared light therapy, photobiomodulation, is one of the most researched and fastest-growing categories in wellness. Here is what the light does, what the research looks at, and why it earns in a professional space.

The science,
briefly.

How it works. Red and near-infrared photons are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme in the mitochondria of your cells. That absorption is associated with increased ATP, the energy cells run on, and with downstream effects the research describes as anti-inflammatory and supportive of tissue repair.

Depth. Red light (630–660 nm) is absorbed near the surface, in the skin. Near-infrared (810–850 nm) is invisible and reaches deeper, into muscle and connective tissue. Full-body systems pair the two so a single session works on both.

Dose. Results in the literature come from consistent, repeated sessions, typically 10 to 20 minutes, several times a week. That cadence is exactly what a membership or session package delivers.

The lights

Four spectrums. Four jobs.

Red · 630–660 nm

Skin, circulation, recovery

The most studied wavelength in photobiomodulation. Reviews report increased type I collagen and improvements in skin tone and texture in controlled trials, plus microcirculation effects. LUMERA systems run 630, 633 and 660 nm.

Near-infrared · 850 nm

Deeper tissue

Reaches muscle, joints and connective tissue. A meta-analysis of more than 1,000 knee-osteoarthritis patients found 785–860 nm light reduced pain and disability scores. Paired with red in every full-body program.

Blue · 425 nm

Clarity and skin conditioning

Short-wavelength visible light used in skin-conditioning programs and for a clean, energizing feel at the start or end of a session.

Green · 525 nm

Balance and calm

Mid-spectrum light used in chromatic programs for relaxation and a sense of balance. The calm-down phase of a stacked session.

What the research
looks at.

Muscle recovery. A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of 14 studies found photobiomodulation significantly reduced post-exercise muscle soreness, with one controlled trial reporting 47% less soreness at 48 hours versus placebo. This is why recovery centers and performance gyms were early adopters.

Skin. Multiple randomized trials using objective measures such as ultrasound collagen density report improvements in wrinkles, collagen synthesis and photo-rejuvenation. Red-light beds sit next to tanning beds in the best salons for a reason.

Joint comfort. Near-infrared in the 785–860 nm range, dosed at 4–8 joules per treatment spot, is the range with the strongest results for joint pain and disability in the knee-osteoarthritis literature.

Rest and mood. Clients describe warmth, deep relaxation, and better sleep after sessions, particularly in stacked programs that add heat, vibration and chromatic light. This is the part they come back for.

LUMERA products are wellness devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. The research above is summarized for education; individual results vary. Clients who are pregnant, have a medical condition, or take photosensitizing medication should check with their healthcare provider.

The flagship

The RedFuzion™ Pod, in one session.

Light

125 LED modules

Red, green, blue and infrared modules with 45 high-intensity LEDs each, wrapped around the body inside the pod.

Heat

Dry heat to 182°F

Adjustable dry heat and infrared warmth, so the light session doubles as a sauna-style session.

Bio-stacking

Eight modalities, one pod

Infrared, dry heat, red light, chromotherapy, vibration massage, sound, aromatherapy and an oxygen system, each selectable at the press of a button.

Session

15 or 30 minutes

One-touch programs run themselves in a private room. Clients check in, the pod runs, the pod resets. No operator time.

Why it matters for your business

A room that earns.

The market

$534M → $1.1B

The red-light therapy market was about $534 million in 2025 and is projected to reach $1.13 billion by 2033, growing near 10% a year. Hotel groups such as Four Seasons, Fairmont and Canyon Ranch now offer commercial red-light beds as a premium amenity.

The session

$40+ per visit

Professional full-body sessions sell for $40 and up, with 10-packs and memberships driving repeat visits. A session takes 15 to 30 minutes and no staff time.

The math

One pod, one room

Illustrative only: six $45 sessions a day, six days a week, is roughly $7,000 a month from a single pod in a single room, before memberships.
